Eleanore Myers Jewett

American novelist Eleanore Myers Jewett was born in New York City in 1890. She majored in comparative literature at Barnard College and had a strong passion for the Middle Ages. The Hidden Treasure of Glaston, one of her books, won the 1947 Newbery Honor Medal. Eleanore Myers Jewett spent every summer at Cape Ann, Massachusetts, where she was a part of a “summer gang” similar to that in Cobbler’s Knob, despite having grown up and adored New York City. They all used to go sailing with an elderly sea captain, and she preferred to sit in front of the mast and take in the motion of the boat and the expansive blue sea.
