Carmilla

This Victorian vampire novella, a precursor to Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” tells the tale of a young woman preyed upon by a female vampire named Carmilla, who later reveals herself to be Mircalla, Countess Karnstein (an anagram). Carmilla is a notable early example of a lesbian vampire character with romantic interests in the protagonist. The novella handles this theme subtly and has been adapted into various forms of media.
